drain relining

What is Drain Relining?

Drain relining is a non-invasive method for repairing damaged or deteriorating drainage systems. This technique involves the installation of a new lining within the existing drain pipes, effectively creating a pipe within a pipe. Relining is a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional drain repair methods, which often require extensive excavation and disruption.

The Drain Relining Process

The process begins with a thorough inspection of the drainage system using advanced CCTV technology. This allows professionals to assess the extent of the damage and determine the suitability of relining. Once the inspection is complete, the pipes are cleaned using high-pressure water jets to remove any debris, roots, or build-up that could interfere with the relining process.

Next, a flexible lining coated with a special resin is prepared. This lining is inserted into the damaged pipe and positioned precisely. Once in place, the lining is inflated, pressing it against the inner walls of the existing pipe. The resin is then allowed to cure, or harden, forming a durable, seamless new pipe within the old one. This new lining restores the structural integrity of the drainage system and ensures smooth, uninterrupted flow.

Benefits of Drain Relining

Non-Invasive: One of the primary advantages of relining is that it eliminates the need for extensive excavation. Traditional drain repair often involves digging up large sections of land, which can be time-consuming, costly, and disruptive. Drain relining, on the other hand, is performed entirely within the existing pipe structure, minimising disruption to the surrounding area.

Cost-Effective: Relining is generally more cost-effective than traditional repair methods. It reduces labour and material costs associated with excavation and replacement. Additionally, the process is quicker, which can result in further savings.

Durability: The materials used are highly durable and resistant to corrosion, root intrusion, and other common causes of pipe deterioration. A properly installed liner can extend the life of the drainage system by several decades.

Improved Flow: The smooth interior surface of the new lining improves the flow of water and waste through the pipes, reducing the likelihood of blockages and backups.

Versatility: Drain relining can be used to repair a variety of pipe materials, including clay, cast iron, PVC, and concrete. It is suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Applications

Drain relining is an ideal solution for a wide range of drainage issues, including:

  • Cracked or broken pipes
  • Leaking joints
  • Root intrusion
  • Corrosion
  • Minor offsets or misalignments
  • It is commonly used to repair sewer lines, stormwater drains, and other underground piping systems

Drain relining is popular due to its non-invasive nature, cost-effectiveness, durability, and efficiency making it an attractive option for addressing a variety of drainage issues. By opting for pipe relining, property owners can restore the functionality of their drainage systems with minimal disruption and long-lasting results. Whether for residential, commercial, or industrial applications, drain relining offers a reliable solution to the challenges of maintaining and repairing drainage infrastructure.
